Join us in-person on Sunday mornings at 10:30am PST at 6000 Sussex Ave in the heart of Burnaby at Metrotown, or you may join us for online worship on Zoom: Click here to join online worship
Our worship time is approximately 1 hour, with community time with coffee and refreshments afterward.
We are always looking for helpers during Sunday worship. You can read scripture, offer a story for the children, or participate in providing the prayers.
What to expect on Sunday morning
Our worship is outlined in the service bulletin and on the screen at the front. You can follow the friendly people around you for cues on when to participate. Bold print in the bulletin is for everyone to say together.
The service typically includes:
- Call to Worship and Prayer
- Passing the Peace
- Discovery Time (Children’s Message)
- Scripture Reading
- Sermon and Reflection
- Prayers of the People
- Recitation of The Lord’s Prayer
- Life and Work of the Church (current and upcoming events)
- Offering
- Blessing and Commissioning
Parking
There are a limited number of parking spaces (stall #1 to 29) underneath the church with an entrance off of Hazel Street (entrance beside 4717 Hazel). There is also street parking around the church and four-hour parking at Metrotown.
Greeting
When you enter the church, you will be met by greeters who will provide you with a service bulletin. The greeters will answer any questions you have or introduce you to others. If you are an introvert, you can also sneak into the back of the church quietly; however, we can’t promise that you will go unnoticed! If you’d like to receive weekly emails from the church to know what’s going on you can fill out an information card, or sign up here.
Singing
We love to sing throughout the service! Hymn books are available on a rack at the entrance to the sanctuary. The hymns marked with an “MV” are from the spiral bound hymn book, More Voices. The hymns marked with a “VU” are from the larger red hard cover hymn book, Voices United. The hymns marked with “TS” are from a new hymn book, Then Let us Sing. You may stand to sing, if you are willing and able, or just sit and sing with great gusto.
Children and Youth Ministry
If you have young children, we have books, colouring, and quiet activities in the sanctuary for them to enjoy before and during service. During Discovery Time, the children gather to hear a message related to the service. After that time, they will be led to different spaces for story and play time based on their ages, with the Children’s Coordinator and an adult supervisor. You may accompany your child if you wish. Babies and toddlers and their parents can stay in the sanctuary or play in the nursery outside the hallway to the left of the front of the church.
Youth and teens may head to the second floor for some reflection and activities, or they may stay in the sanctuary for worship service.
Reading The Lesson
It is a tradition at Jubilee for members of the congregation to read the scripture passage during Sunday worship. The passage may be from the Old Testament, the Epistles, and the Psalms (which might also have musical interludes) and most often the Gospel.
Offering
Offering plates are passed around during worship. Pink giving envelopes are available in the entryway. Monetary offerings are not expected, although we never say no! Any donation of more than $20 is considered tax-deductible by the CRA; provide your mailing address to receive a tax receipt.
For other ways to give or to set up regular donations through pre-authorized donations, please visit our Giving page.
Prayer and visitation requests
There are prayer request and visitation request forms available in the entryway of the church. These forms can be filled out and placed on the offering plate. They will be passed along to a member of our pastoral care team and someone will reach out to you.
Communion
Communion is typically celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at Jubilee or the closest “high holy day.” Our communion table is an open table. Anyone of whatever age, stage of life, faith, denomination, or condition is invited to take communion. At this time, Sunday morning programming (children and youth) rejoin the rest of the congregation to take communion. At Jubilee you may be served in your seat, or you may come up to the front and receive communion. Typically we serve pre-cut bread and pre-filled glasses at the front. All of the bread is Gluten Free.
